I'm all for disarming the language police. But the problem is so many politicians, pundits and editorial writers need policing. But they won't ever see that.
And it's not about being politically correct. Or about some other-imposed sense of what's appropriate. But it does come down to right and wrong. And the problem is that most, if not all, of our public discourse practictioners NEVER admit when they are wrong. Outside of Jon Stewart, when's the last time you heard a news person own up to something they did wrong? Did ANY news organization come clean after they announced the death of Congresswoman Giffords? They don't hold themselves accountable for their words or actions. It's a dirty job - but somebody has to do it.
UPDATE: forgive me, I forgot to add comedian in front of Jon's name. I realize after Beck's comment, that distinction is needed now more than ever.
